Russell E. Peterson, 64, of Cherokee, went to be with his Savior on Saturday, March 29, 2007.

It was Russell's wish to be cremated. There will be no services held at this time. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee is assisting the family with arrangements.

Russell was born Aug. 5, 1943 at Watertown, S.D. to Elmer and Velma Marie (Lawrentz) Peterson. He was raised in Hayti, S.D. where he graduated from high school. He had served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was married to Judith Swisher on Dec. 1, 1969 at Vermillion, S.D. He had been in the trucking business for many years was a mechanic and enjoyed doing odd jobs, retiring in 2005. He had lived in Cherokee since the 1960's, prior to this in South Dakota. He loved spending time with his family, friends and neighbors

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Judith on March 9, 2004 and a step-daughter Dinah Lynch in 2008.

He is survived by a daughter Mary Marcellus and her husband Mitch of Lennox, S.D., three step-children: Gwen Mann and her husband Charles of Cherokee; Cathryn Dreesen of Minn.; James Garvin and his wife Jeanette of Clinton, Mo.; two grandchildren Raven and Ben, numerous step-grandchildren and four step-great grandchildren; an aunt Willie Peterson of Hayti, S.D., several cousins and special friends Rodney and Ellen Robinson and Ron and Kathy Igou.
