Jerry D. Munson, 58, of Merrill, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2008 at his home in Merrill with his family by his side, after an 18 month battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held on April 7th at the Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee, with Pastor Jim Steen officiating. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Cherokee.
Jerry was born in Spencer on March 14, 1950 to Lyle and Pat (Brown) Munson. He graduated from Central High School in Sioux City in 1968, and was married to Janice Ransom on March 3, 1972 at Sioux City.
Jerry worked at Aalf's Manufacturing in Sioux City for nine years, Robert's Dairy for a short time, and was the Maintenance Engineer at Security National Bank in Sioux City for 29 years, working until his health failed. He had been a resident of Merrill the past nine years, and prior to this had lived in Sioux City for 49 years.
Jerry was affiliated with the Lutheran Church, was an avid woodworker, longtime Beatles Memorabilia collector, enjoyed building models, studying history and drawing and sketching.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents and is survived by his wife Janice of Merrill; two sons and one daughter: Jerry David Munson Jr. and his wife Julie of Des Moines; Robert Lee Munson and his wife Natera of Sioux City; and Julie Marie Munson and her significant other, Jason Blau of Sioux City; his parents, Lyle & Pat Munson of Sioux City; three grandchildren: Tristan and Taylor Blau and Maura Munson; three step-grandchildren: Chris Wheeler, Amanda and Orfeas Ketchelos Jr; six brothers and sisters: Marlene Ransom and her husband Ron of Sioux City; Carol Sorenson and her husband Steve of Sioux City; Lesa Trudeau and her husband Wayne of North Sioux City, S.D.; Stephen Munson of Sioux City; James Munson of Sioux City; and Patti Marsh and her husband Dan of South Sioux City, Neb.
