SPENCER - The Cherokee Braves finished runner-up in a Lakes Conference golf triangular at the Spencer Country Club here on April 8.
Host Spencer won the meet after carding a 145, followed by Cherokee with 171, and Storm Lake 174.
Michael Clark of the Tigers was medalist with a 34. He beat teammate Jay Monahan, who also shot a 34, in a playoff.
Matt Pitts led the Braves scoring with a 40, followed by Brock Benson 43, David Cook 44, and Andrew Braun 44. Scott Brown carded 49, and Wayne Thompson 53 for Cherokee.
Cherokee was third in the JV match with Tom Weaver leading the way with a 48. Austin Mongan scored a 63, Dillon Devitt 67, and Zac Woods 70.
"I was really pleased with the way the guys played," said Cherokee coach James DeVos. "The conditions weren't the greatest and they kept their mental games after sone rough first holes.
"It was nice to get a conference victory (beating Storm Lake). This is the first one for this group of players. It was a very good way to start out the year."
The Braves play in the Spencer Invitational April 12, and April 14 travel to Emmetsburg for a Lakes triangular also including Estherville-LC.
