STORM LAKE - The Cherokee Washington High girls varsity tennis team dropped a 5-1 Lakes Conference verdict at Storm Lake Tuesday night in a meet cut short by cold, threatening weather.
The teams completed the six singles matches and then called the doubles matches off after the Tornadoes came away with an insurmountable 5-1 lead.
Michelle McGarry was Cherokee's lone winner, claiming a 10-8 victory over Dah Khampavangsa at number four singles.
In other singles action for Cherokee, Shannon Schroeder lost 10-2 to Kelly Smith at number one, Allie Parker lost 10-1 to Abby Smith at two, Demi Dunn lost 10-6 to Morgan Rauch at three, Sofia Seliger lost 10-3 to Amanda Helmbrecht at five, and Marissa Lessler lost 10-3 to Linda Her at six.
The JV lost 8-0 and completed all its matches except number two doubles.
In JV singles action for Cherokee, Korriane Aguirre lost 8-5 at number one, Sydney Morton lost 8-4 at two, Amanda Kohn lost 8-6 at three, Sanna Miller lost 8-4 at four, Hillary Wilkie lost 8-5 at five, and Amber Melton lost 8-1 at six.
In JV doubles, Aguirre and Morton lost 8-6 at number one, Kohn and Aurora Buschkamp did not finish at two, and Kelsey Raper and Jenae Lundell lost 8-0 at three.
