Carol A. Ames, 60, of Sutherland, Iowa, passed away Thursday afternoon, April 10, 2008 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa following a seven year battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held on April 14 at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Sutherland, Iowa. Pastor Leroy Riemer officiated. Burial was in the Liberty Township Cemetery at rural Meriden, Iowa.
Carol was born on June 4, 1947 at Crookston, Minnesota to Warren & Mildred (Haht) Darr. She attended Red Lake County Country School and then graduated from Sutherland High School in 1965. She then attended bookkeeping school for 2 years.
She was married to Dale R. Ames on December 26, 1965 at Lake Providence, Louisiana and was later divorced. She had lived in Sutherland for two years, prior to this South Sioux City for 8 years, Homer, Nebraska for 13 years, Meriden for 7 years, and Cherokee for 16 years. She had worked at Brown Auto Supply, Walnut Grove, Cherokee State Bank, Christensen Bros. and IBP, currently Tyson Foods, retiring in the summer of 2005. She enjoyed reading, watching television and Angels.
She was preceded in death by her father Warren Darr, a son Jonathan "J.C." Ames, twin brothers, a sister Lorraine Stofferan, and a brother-in-law David Olson.
She is survived by two sons, Brian Ames of Sheldon, Iowa; Alan Ames and his wife Amy of St. Paul, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, one sister Lorna Olson of Paullina, Iowa; a brother-in-law Robert Stofferan and his wife Valerie of Sanborn, Iowa.
