Schuett, Lugar lead track Braves

The injury-plagued Cherokee Braves track and field team participated in two recent meets, placing 8th at the Le Mars Invitational last week, and 8th at the Knight Relays in Orange City Monday night.

Orange City Unity Christian won the Le Mars meet with 126 team points, followed by Sioux City Heelan 102, Le Mars 88, Sioux City North 64.5, Sioux City East 62, Spencer 53, Sioux City West 41, Cherokee 21.5.

Cherokee's Kyle Schuett was the lone champion at Le Mars, winning the 100 meters in 11.17 seconds.

Drew Lugar banked two fifth-place finishes with a 17.36 clocking in the 110 hurdles, and a 55.81 time posted in the 400 meters. Keaton Tuttle also placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 115-5. The Braves' 4x800 relay of Dan Bieber, Philip Bieber, Luke Pearson, and Zack Mosbach was fifth in a time of 8:56.43.

Sixth-place finishes went to Nolan Sampson with a 5-4 high jump; the shuttle hurdle relay of Lugar, Pearson, Sampson, and Tony Hunt timed in 1:10.6; and the medley relay of Stephen Veit, Sampson, Hunt, and Philip Bieber clocked in 4:06.61.

The Braves scored 22 team points at the Knight Relays in Orange City, with Lugar leading the way with a second-place finish in the 110 hurdles in a time of 15.97.

The 4x400 relay of Lugar, Dan Bieber, Philip Bieber, and Pearson placed third in 2:43.19; the 4x800 relay of Philip Bieber, Dan Bieber, Pearson, and Mosback was fourth in 9:04.55; and the medley relay of Veit, Lugar, Dan Bieber, and Philip Bieber was fifth in 4:04.13.

Nick O'Bryan was fifth in the 1600 meters in 5:06.3, and Tuttle was seventh in the shot put with a 42-0.5 effort. O'Bryan also was eighth in the 3200 meters in 11:42.68.

Dan Bieber was ninth in the long jump with an 18-2 1/4 leap, Hunt was ninth in the 200 meters in 25.58, and Mosback ninth in the 800 meters in a time of 2:24.8.

Host Unity Christian won the meet with 151 points, followed by Hull Western Christian 101.5, MOC-Floyd Valley 72, Sibley-Ocheyedan 62, Le Mars 60.5, Sheldon 49, Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley 40, and Cherokee 22.
