Connie Luann (Naslund) Farmer, 52, of Rose Hill, Kan., had an accident at her home which resulted in her death on April 12, 2008. Funeral services were held on April 17th at the Church of Christ in Douglass, Kan.
Connie was born Oct. 20, 1954 in Rome, New York She attended school in Cherokee, and continued on with her education participating in several college courses. She married Glen Dodd in 1972. To this union a daughter, Cassandra, was born on February 12, 1974.
Connie married Robert Rasmussen in 1976 and to this union a son, Zachariah, was born on June 22, 1979.
Connie married Phillip J. Farmer on October 25, 1991. Connie rode horses with the 4-H Cavaliers throughout her school years, and that sparked her love for endurance racing.
She started endurance horse racing in 1985. Phillip was by her side to share her winning a National Championship in 1994. She continued to compete until 1998 enjoying every minute of racing. Connie was an accomplished horsewoman with over 6000 miles in cross country endurance rides and held several titles as well as having set many records that still stand today.
Although not competing after 1998, she still enjoyed long hours in the saddle accompanied by her husband, Phillip, best friend, Karen, and her canine kids. She lived on a beautiful farm in the Rose Hill area with her husband Phil, where they enjoyed raising farm animals and watching the native wildlife.
Connie joined K-9 SARK in July of 2007 with her German Shepherd, Kira. She has completed C.E.R.T. training (sponsored by F.E.M.A.) and has taken IS-00100, IS-00200 (ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents), IS-00700 (National Incident Management System-NIMS, and Introduction) as well as NASAR FUNSAR (Fundamentals of Search and Rescue) and NASAR MLPI (Managing the Lost Person Incident) courses.
She just returned from Arkansas' Second Annual SAR Working Dog Seminar where she completed 30 hours of instruction in K9 Tracking and Trailing, K9 first Aid, scent theory and Alzheimer's disease education. Connie has also earned her NASCAR SARTECH II in October of 2007.
Connie was preceded in death by her step-father, Howard Jenness and a brother, Bryan Naslund.
Connie is survived by her husband, Phillip, her mother, Berna Jenness of Cherokee, her father, Jay Naslund of Waxahachie, Texas, Aunt, Erma Kyle of Waunakee, Wis., brothers, Gary (Jane) Naslund of Kearney, Neb., Kevin (Tandra) Naslund of Cherokee, sisters, Deborah (Dave) Dunn of Cherokee, Pam (Mike) Ives of Colorado Springs, Colo., Penny Harding of Kearney, Neb., a daughter, Cassandra (Joe) Napier of Cherokee, a son, Zachariah (Lindsay) Rasmussen of Stonewall, Okla., and three grandchildren, Christina, Stephanie and Duane of Cherokee. Many nieces and nephews, loved ones and friends. Connie was loved by all and will be deeply missed. She touched many lives. A memorial has been established with K9SARK, 2700 N.
