ALTA - Three area schools were among 10 boys' track teams competing in two classes at the April 24th Alta Invitational track meet.
In Class A, the host Alta Cyclones won the five-team race with 178 points. Newell-Fonda was second with 103, edging Schaller-Crestland by a single point. MMC was next, scoring 92 points, and the River Valley Wolverines finished fifth, scoring 41 points.
No further information was available on MMC and RV performances.
In Class B, Odebolt-Arthur won, with 173 points, Ar-We-Va finished second (146) and Whiting was third, with a team total of 107. Coach Mike Fry's Aurelia Bulldogs finished 4th, scoring a team total of 84, and Storm Lake St. Mary's was 5th, with 25 team points.
Individually, Aurelia senior Jared Bruce again had an outstanding meet, winning four golds, two individually and two as a member of relay teams. Bruce won the 3200 meter run with a time of 10:19.39 and the 1600, in 4:46.35.
His brother Aaron was fifth in that race, turning in a time of 5:37.50. Aaron Bruce also finished 4th in the 400 meter dash, in 57.19. Elliot Zadow took third in the shot put, heaving the metal ball 40 feet, and Anthony Fowler was third in the 200 meter dash, with a time of 25.46.
Aurelia's Brandon Pederson continued his outstanding high jumping, winning the gold with a 5-8 leap. The winning Bulldog relay teams included Anthony Fowler, Aaron Bruce, Brandon Pedersen and Jared Bruce in the 1600 medley relay, in a time of 4:02.38; and the 4x400 (Aaron Bruce, Brandon Pedersen, Anthony Fowler, Jared Bruce), who toured the oval in 3:47.41
