The fast-improving Cherokee Braves golf team won a Lakes Conference triangular with Le Mars and Spirit Lake here Apr. 22, carding a 160, to runner-up Le Mars' 168, and the Indians' 173.
Brock Benson was medalist for the Braves with a 37, and his teammate David Cook was runner-up with a 38.
Other low medal for Cherokee were Matt Pitts 40, and Scott Brown 45. Also for Cherokee, Andrew Braun carded a 47, and Casey Cuthrell shot 52.
Le Mars won the JV competition with a 179, followed by Cherokee 193, and Spirit Lake 195.
Paxton O'Connor was low scorer for the Braves with a 42, followed by Tom Weaver and Tyler Lundsgaard 50 each, and Dillon Devitt 51. Also for Cherokee, Wayne Thompson shot 55, and Austin Mongan 56.
"You could not ask for a better day to play gofl," said Cherokee coach James DeVos. "The boys used their home course advantage and played well. It was a strong conference victory for us at home."
The 4-2 Braves play Saturday in the Storm Lake Invitational, and Monday host Sheldon and Hull Western Christian in further Lakes Conference action.
