Board considers options at special meeting
AURELIA - The Aurelia School District, already hit with the recent retirement of High School Principal Dave Hickman, suffered another administrative blow on April 28, with the resignation of Superintendent Tom Vint.
Vint, who has been Superintendent at Aurelia for six years, has taken a position as shared Superintendent of the Boyer Valley and Woodbine School Districts beginning the 2008-2009 school year.
In a special School Board meeting, the Board approved Vint's resignation, as well as that of his wife Kim, Middle School Language/Arts and Reading instructor, with appreciation of their years of service to the Aurelia School District.
Vint said he feels "Aurelia has an excellent school system and great staff. I've really enjoyed working with everyone."
Vint and Hickman, who was also at the meeting, both said they will help in any way they can to make the District's administration transition as smooth as possible.
Several options were discussed at the meeting. The Board chose not to hire a consultant for an Administrator search at this time, as it may not be necessary. The Aurelia District has a current staff member who is qualified and interested in filling a K-12 Principal position, and there are also 2-3 options they intend to pursue regarding a part-time Superintendent.
The Board may call a special meeting between now and the next regular Board meeting on May 12 to talk to potential Superintendent candidates about filling the vacancy, and make hiring decisions at that May meeting.
