Ruehle earns All-Lakes honors

Cherokee Brave wins second-flight singles

STORM LAKE - Cherokee senior Kyle Ruehle, the Braves number two singles player, won second-flight singles at the Lakes Conference Boys Tennis Tournament here April 26 to earn a berth on the 2008 All-Lakes Conference boys tennis team.

In first-flight singles, Cherokee's number one singles player Cole Egger finished fourth, just missing All-Lakes honors, as the top three in first-flight, and the second-flight winner earn all-conference laurels.

In other action for Cherokee, Tom Wilson and Daniel Feser placed fifth in second-flight doubles, and Cole Renken and Nick Parker finished sixth in first-flight doubles.

Spencer's Chris Lensing, whom Egger defeated last week, won first-fkight singles and Storm Lake's Jesse Munger was second. Spencer's Sasha Schulz was runner-up to Ruehle in second-flight singles.

Spirit Lake/Okoboji's Scott Maudlin and Mason Berquist won the first-flight doubles, and Spencer's Jon Gabhart and Chris Jones won second-flight doubles.

"Kyle did a masterful job in the miserably cold and windy conditions and didn't drop a single match," said Cherokee coach Dave Zelle. "He lost a mere seven games in the five-match round-robin format."

Spencer won the team title with 16 points over runner-up Storm Lake's 15. Cherokee was fourth with nine points.
