OKOBOJI - The Cherokee Washington High girls placed fifth in the Lakes Conference Girls Golf Tournament, held on the Okoboji Vu golf course at the Iowa Great Lakes on May 5th.
Spirit Lake took the team title with an 18-hole team score of 377, followed by Spencer, 387; Emmetsburg, 403; Estherville-LC, 425; Cherokee, 445; Sheldon, 453; Storm Lake, 459; LeMars, 487; and Hull Western Christian, 492.
Cherokee sophomore Amanda Callahan earned all-conference honors with her team-leading round of 100 (49-51). Sara Sarchet (106), Ally Curry (114), and Kelsey Ludwig (125) completed Cherokee scoring. Emily Cook (126) and Danielle Hansen (134) also played for Cherokee.
Cherokee coach Heath Hagberg said, "Our girls played really well, posting)our lowest 18-hole total of the year. We have improved our scores in each of the last four meets." The girls are working hard," said Hagberg, "and enjoying the results."
The future looks bright for the girls, as none of the girls who swung the clubs for Cherokee Monday graduate this year - Sarchet is a junior, Callahan and Ludwig are sophomores, and Hansen, Curry and Cook are all freshmen.
Spencer senior Emily Holck was the meet medalist by several strokes, as she carded a 42-39- 81 round. Ashley Nielsen of Spirit Lake was runner-up medalist with a round of 49-41- 90. Nikki Nielsen of Spirit Lake shot a 92 and Macy Milburn of E-LC a 93.
