WHS girls tumble to Storm Lake

Visiting Storm Lake hammered the Cherokee Washington High girls tennis squad 8-1 in Lakes Conference action here May 5th that signaled the end of the 2008 regular season.

For Cherokee, Michelle McGarry beat Dah Khamphavongsa 10-7 at number four singles for her team's lone victory.

In other singles action for Cherokee, Shannon Schroeder lost 10-0 to Abby Smith at number one, Demi Dunn lost 10-2 to Kelly Smith at two, Allie Parker lost 10-3 to Morgan Rauch at three, Marissa Leissler lost 10-1 to Linda Her at five, and Korriane Aguirre lost 10-4 to Amanda Kavan at six.

In varsity doubles action, Schroeder and Dunn lost 10-3 to Smith and Smith at number one, Parker and McGarry lost 10-6 to Rauch and Her at two, and Leissler and Aguirre lost 10-3 to Khamphavongsa and Kavan at three.

Storm Lake also prevailed in the JV match by a score of 7-2.

For Cherokee in JV singles, Sydney Morton lost 8-3 at number one, Sanna Miller won 8-1 at two, Amanda Kohn lost 8-1 at three, Hillary Wilkie lost 8-4 at four, Amber Melton lost 8-0 at five, and Aurora Buschkamp lost 8-3 at six.

In JV doubles, Miller and Kohn lost 8-6 at number one, Wilkie and Melton lost 8-1 at two, and Jenae Lundell and Buschkamp won 8-4 at three.

The Cherokee girls play in the 1A Districts May 15 at Spencer.
