MMC gym floor for sale

Friday, May 23, 2008

MARCUS - Want some maple wood to decorate a family room or young one's bedroom? How about a room just to unwind in?

The Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn Athletic Boosters have taken on the project to eliminate the old gym floor. The MMC School District wants the wood gone by June 9 so a new floor can be installed. The MMC School Board thought the local booster group would be interested in such a project and could sell sections to earn money for one of their projects.

How right they were as the MMC Boosters want to raise money for a new concession stand. The group has drawn up a map of the floor so folks know how large an area of plain maple wood there is as well as purchasing special areas such as the center circle with the MMC logo in it, the free throw lanes, Eagle mascots painted on the floor and the large Eagles. Some open board areas are 94 by 73 inches long.

Anyone who is interested may submit sealed bids. The wood is one and one/sixteenth inch thick. The bids should be in by May 27. Those whose bids are accepted will be notified on June 1 and the deadline for removal is June 9.

Other districts have done this as many may want a section of the gym for various wood projects and to hold onto some memories. One should state the dimensions wanted.

Anyone who has a question, should call Laura Letsche at 376-4318 or LuAnn Kunzweiler at 376-4426. One may also call the school if there are some particulars you'd like answered. These bids will be based on the buyer's own removal of the floor unless otherwise stated on the form.

The two free throw lanes (each 13 x26); Eagles (4 x 23), two Eagle mascots (each 5 x 7) and the MMC circle is 13 x 13. If one needs help hauling it away, add $50 to your bid. Bids may be sent to: Athletic Boosters; P.O. Box 178; Marcus, IA 51035.

This will all happen in a short period of time. Anyone interested in doing wood projects will want to give this project some consideration.
