Gene A. Cedar, 63, of rural Meriden, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at 12:38 a.m. at his farm home due to an apparent heart attack.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 24, at 1:30 p.m. at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. Rev. Ethan Sayler and Rev. Ray Kruger will officiate. Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery at rural Meriden. . Online condolences may be sent to www.boothbyfuneral.com.
Gene was born on June 21, 1944 at Cherokee, to Arvid & Esther (Anderson) Cedar. He attended grade school in Meriden and graduated from Cherokee Washington High School in 1962. He graduated from Iowa State University with a Degree in Agri-Business in 1966. He served one enlistment in the U. S. Army Reserve. He had farmed all his life in Sheridan Township. Gene was married to Donna Marie Mentzer on March 1, 1975 at Odebolt. He was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church where he had also served on the Board of Trustees; a member of the Little Sioux Red Power Tractor Club and the 2CYL Tractor Club of Spencer. He enjoyed working on antique tractors and cars, spending time with his family and displaying his tractors at the Clay County Fair with the 2CYL Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife Donna; one son Neil Gene Cedar of Ames; one brother Paul Cedar and his wife Marilyn of Cherokee; nephews and nieces: John Cedar and his wife Val of Cherokee; Marla Kuettler and her husband Tom of Woodridge, Ill.; Jim Cedar and his wife Gayle of Cherokee; Mark
