The Cherokee School Board approved a salary/benefit package of 4 percent for support staff and, in a separate motion, approved a salary/benefit package of 4 percent for administration. Support staff are represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 234. The board had approved a 4.5 percent package for certified staff earlier in the year.
The action at the May 19th Board meeting was among several personnel matters.
The board also approved a contract for Beth McDermott as a half-time director of curriculum. This is part of a full-time contract as McDermott will also continue in a teaching position.
The board approved a contract for Mike Rundell as a social science instructor at the middle school and high school and as an 8th grade football coach. This action was taken pending Rundell's being released from his contract at Galva-Holstein.
The board also approved a contract for Mary Beth Staver as high school language arts and middle school Spanish teacher.
The board approved a contract for Dawn Jenness as a reading instructor at Roosevelt Elementary and at CMS.
Dennis Henrich, former mayor of Cherokee, read a proclamation recognizing the school board's efforts in conjunction with School Board Recognition Week. Henrich was acting on behalf of the mayor pro tem, who was out of town.
The board also approved a trip to Kansas City for the student council.
