WHS artist wins top state prize

Virginia Bird was the recipient of a first place award in a patriotic art competition sponsored by the VFW and VFW Auxiliary. Virginia Bird, a recent graduate of Washington High School, has taken first place in a state contest of patriotic art sponsored by the VFW and VFW Auxiliary.

Bird qualified for state competition by winning first place in local competition. She received a $50 prize from the local VFW and Auxiliary and a $500 check from the state organization. The painting has been sent on for judging in national competition.

Bird's art instructor at WHS has been Nathan Evans.
