Memorial services were held on May 31 at the First United Methodist Church in Ida Grove under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend Russ L. Burnett officiated, and inurnment was in the St. Clair Cemetery in Ute.
Born Jan. 9, 1928, in Charter Oak, Marilyn Genevieve Christiansen was the daughter of Henry and Catherine (Brickman) Christiansen. She graduated from Charter Oak High School. On June 23, 1946, she married James A. Wallace in Sioux City. The couple farmed in the Ute area until 1955, when they moved to Ida Grove.
Marilyn was employed by the JC Penney store in Ida Grove for over 20 years. She was active for many years in the Ida Grove chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and the Rainbow Girls. She also was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ida Grove.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Wallace, on Feb. 11, 1987; a son, James A. Wallace, Jr., in 1955; a daughter, Jane A. (Wallace) Applebee in 1989; her parents; three brothers; and a sister.
Left to cherish her memory are four daughters, Linda (David) Daiker of Eagle, Neb., Donna (Donald) Wood of Davenport, Mary Sue (Dale) Benson of Cherokee, and Patti (Thomas) Shea of Green Bay, WI; twelve grandchildren, James (Stacie) Applebee of Waverly, Neb., Aimee (Jay) Barritt of Cherokee, Janis Applebee of Waverly, Neb., Cari (Matt) Patterson of Bettendorf, Crista Wood of Carol Stream, Ill., Jennifer (Terry) Powers of Lincoln, Neb., Daniel Wood of Sioux City, Adam (Jacey) Benson of Cherokee, and Samuel, Emily, Hunter, and Grace Shea, all of Green Bay, Wis.; and eight great-grandchildren, Brandon and Abbie Applebee, Brett and Jennifer Barritt, Brittani Anderson, Dillon Kell Applebee, Nicholas Patterson, and Ashlynn Powers. Also surviving are a brother, Ron Christiansen of Castana; four sisters, Charlotte Kendall of Toledo, June Samuelson of Milan, Ill., Edna Jensen of Castana, and Carmen Lamb of Onawa; a sister-in-law, Marfay Wallace of Omaha, Neb.; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
