WHS girls fall twice at Humboldt

HUMBOLDT - The enigmatic Cherokee Washington High softball team dropped both games at the May 31st Humboldt Invitational Tournament here, falling 10-6 to Mason City, and losing 5-0 to rated Humboldt.

Jenna Phipps took the pitching loss for Cherokee against Mason City, allowing four runs on five hits, with one strikeout in two innings of work. Kelsey Ludwig also pitched two innings for the WHS club, giving up one run and striking out one in two inning of work.

Leading hitters for Cherokee were Alison Husman 2-3 with two runs scored, Alanna Valentine 1-2 with two RBI and a run scored, Ludwig 2-2 with an RBI, Lacie Drennan 1-3 with a run scored, and Kelsey Essick 1-3.

Ludwig went the distance on the mound for Cherokee against Humboldt, pitching six innings and allowing one run on six hits, while striking out four in the shut-out loss.

Cherokee managed just two hits in the game, with Lynn Carlson and Kelsie Peterson getting those.
