Lansink hits 3 home runs in one game
The busy and talented South O'Brien softball team won three recent games to push its record to 6-1 so far this season.
The Wolverines beat Sioux Center 10-0, and Sheldon 5-3 in the Sheldon Tournament on May 31, and then defeated West Sioux 13-0 in Hawarden on June 2.
Aphton Roberts fired a one-hit shutout to lead SOS past Sioux Center, walking three and striking out six in six innings of work.
Ashton Lansink led the South O'Brien batters with two hits, two runs scored, and an RBI. Christine Haden had two hits, scored twice, and had an RBI, and Carrie Egdorf and Roberts each had a hit and two RBI.
"This was a good victory for us," said SOS oach Mary Helfter. "I was concerned that we'd be rusty after being rained out for two days, but everyone came ready to play."
Lansink got the pitching win against Sheldon, scattering eight hits for three runs, with five strikeouts.
Haden led the offense with three hits, two RBI, and a run scored, while Taylor Julian and Miranda Kelleher each rapped two hits. SOS tallied five hits to fuel the three-run third inning, with Roberts, Haden, Julan, Egdorf, and Rachel Tilley each recording a hit.
"This was another good win for us against a good team that beat us last year," said Helfter.
In the win over West Sioux, Roberts recorded her third shutout this season, allowing two hits, two walks, and striking out eight.
Lansink was on fire at the plate, with three home runs and a single for a whopping seven RBI and four runs scored. Haden was 3-5 with a double, Egdorf tripled and had two RBI, and Julian doubled and scored twice.
"We were all pretty excited for Ashton when she hit the first home run," explained Helfter. "Wow, and then to end up with three, including a grand slam, is pretty special. Everyone in the lineup contributed in some way to the offense."
