Monday, June 9, 2008

AYRSHIRE - Aurelia softball coach Jason Heeren said his Bulldog team's offensive display Wednesday night against Ruthven-Ayrshire "wasn't our prettiest," then added "we will take a win any way we can get it."

The Bulldogs did indeed come away with a win in the non-conference game, plating a run in the top of the 7th to beat the Raiders, 4-3.

Winning Pitcher Erin Laursen went the distance for the Bulldogs, giving up three runs on three hits, while walking two and striking out six.

At the plate for the Bulldogs, senior Leah Kai was 2-4 and also stole a base; Audrey Winterhof had one hit, scored two runs and drew a walk; Kristun Tabler had a hit, scored a run, drew a walk and stole a base; and

Kayla Bruns and Cassie Sleezer each had one hit.

Coach Heeren commented that "We played solid defense and Erin threw a great ball game, (but) we have to get more confident at the plate."
