Thrivent donates to tornado victim fund

Thursday, June 12, 2008
Thrivent Financial for Lutherans has announced that they have established a matching program for all gifts to Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) designated specifically to LSI's disaster response efforts in northeast Iowa.

Thrivent Financial for Lutherans will match $1 for every $3 donated to LSI for use in the communities affected by the devastating tornado that touched down on May 25. Thrivent will match up to $10,000 to the response effort that has been mobilized by LSI, the Iowa affiliate of Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR).

LSI's disaster response program is designed to address the unmet needs of residents impacted by the storms. This is a program that supports the community long after the cleanup phase is completed. In addition to support from an assigned case advocate, typical assistance may include purchasing a bed or other household items, paying an insurance deductible, paying a utility bill, or addressing a wide range of uninsured or underinsured financial losses.

LSI is currently seeking donations to address the extraordinary needs in the northeastern Iowa communities. Tax-deductible donations can be made to Lutheran Services in Iowa online at: www.lsiowa.org; by mail to: LSI, P.O. Box 848, Waverly, Iowa, 50677; or by phone: 866.584.5293. Please designate your donation with the words "disaster response" or use our online disaster response form.

LSI impacts the lives of tens of thousands of Iowans annually through residential treatment, services to families, home health care and mobility solutions, early childhood programs, adoption/foster care services, refugee resettlement, services for people with disabilities, disaster response initiatives and Barnabas Uplift. LSI serves people of all ages, genders, nationalities, religions, ethnicities and sexual orientations and is affiliated with Lutheran Services in America and three Iowa synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
