MMC girls drop 3 of 4 recent games

The young Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn softball team dropped three of four recent games in rugged War Eagle Conference action.

The Eagles lost 8-1 at Hinton last week with 8th grader Kayla Foresman taking the loss on the mound, allowing eight runs on three hits, three wallks, and striking out seven in six innings of work. MMC managed just one hit in the game, with Whitney Walton getting that.

The Eagles then dropped a 14-4, five-inning game at Orange City Unity Christian with Andrea Doeden taking the pitching loss, allowing 14 runs on 13 hits and five walks, while striking out one in five innings of work. MMC had three hits in the game, with Kaylee Dreckman, Mariah Walton, and Jackie Holmes getting those.

Tough Akron-Westfield beat MMC 10-1 last week in Cleghorn, with Stephanie Specht getting the pitching loss for MMC, allowing 10 runs on 10 hits and three walks, with one K. Foresman led the Eagle hitters with a 2-2 game and the lone RBI on a double. Mariah Walton was the only other Eagle to get a hit.

MMC rallied to beat Granville Spalding 14-13 in a donnybrook in Cleghorn Monday night. Doeden got the pitching win, giving up 13 runs on 12 hits and five walks, with nine strikeouts in the eight-inning game. The Eagles pounded out 23 hits for the win, with Whitney Walton 4-6 with two runs scored, Kaylee Dreckman 3-5 with a run scored, Foresman 4-5 with three runs scored, Doeden 3-5 with a run scored, Specht 2-4 with a run scored, Holmes 2-4 with a run scored, Hoefling 2-4 with a run scored, and Mariah Woltman 1-2 with a run scored.
