RV girls split tournament games

MOVILLE - The River Valley softball team rang up a 1-1 record at the Woodbury Central Tournament here on June 7th, falling 10-0 to rated Newell-Fonda in the opener, and then regrouping to shut out Storm Lake St. Mary's 9-0.

Shelby Chester and Lexi Chester had the lone Wolverine hits against the Mustangs. Jody Peterson took the pitching loss, givng up 10 runs on one walk, with two strikeouts.

"Newell-Fonda is a tough team and they were hitting the ball," said RV coach Erika Slota. "We were hitting it right to them."

Peterson got the mound win for RV over St. Mary's, firing a shutout and allowing just three hits and one wall, while striking out four. Jessica Fundermann, Stephanie Shever, and Kelli Miller each had two hits for the winners, while Lexi Chester, Amber Bauer, and Peterson each notched one hit.
