The Cherokee Braves stepped over Hull Western Christian 12-0 in Lakes Conference baseball action here on June 13th.
The #1 Braves, now 13-1 for the season, pounded out a dozen hits, with Kyle Ruehle's bases-loaded double in the four-run first inning getting Cherokee up, up, and away early.
Six Braves had multiple or extra-base hits in the five-inning game called early due to the 10-run mercy rule in Iowa high school baseball.
Ruehle finished 2-3 with a double and three RBI, Tim Jones was 2-2 with a double and RBI, Kyle Schuett was 2-3 with a triple and two RBI, Matt Koch was 2-3, Keaton Tuttle was 1-1 with a double and RBI, and Scott Brown was 1-3 with a double and two RBI.
Cody Ege got the pitching win for Cherokee, throwing a two-hit shutout with no walks and six strikeouts in four innings of work. Matt Koch pitched one inning and struck out two Wolfpack batters.
"The kids came out with four runs in the first inning to take control," said Cherokee coach Scott Koch, last year's Iowa Coach Of The Year for the defending Class 2A Champion Braves. "Cody pitched another fine game for us."
