Primary election costs given

Thursday, June 26, 2008
The Cherokee County auditor's office reports that the Republican and Democratic party primary elections on June 3 totaled $11,881.55. This cost will increase slightly because publication costs for the Aurelia Star have not been billed yet.

He breakdown of costs is:

Ballots - $1,721.90

Election workers - $6,519.56

Programming - $2,695.02

Publication in Chronicle Times - $218.46

Publication in Marcus News - $240.85

Supplies - $56.64

Election register - $92.40

Postage - $77.97

Sent ballots - $96.00

Master list - $162.75

The auditor noted that the cost has risen some with the new voting equipment now in use. This will likely be about the same cost as the general election in November. A special election might not be as expensive because not as many election workers would be needed.
