The Galva-Holstein Softball team opened the Maple Valley Conference Softball Tournament with a 9-0 win over Remsen-Unon at the Remsen field here on June 20th. The victory improved Galva-Holstein's overall record to 15-8.
Pitching the shutout for G-H was Jaime Christensen, who pitched all 7 innings, giving up five hits while walking two and striking out two. Leading the way at the plate for the Lady Pirates were Heather Joslin, who went 3-4 with a double and a triple and Brea Slaybaugh, who went 3-5 and scored two runs. Brooke Weise also drove in two runs for Coach Scott Phelps' G-H team. Phelps was happy with his team's victory, singling out their defense and how they stayed focused after scoring early.
