In response to several inquiries, the Cherokee County Chapter of the American Red Cross has announced that there is a way for people to help those who were affected in Iowa and other areas by the tornadoes and floods over this last month.
Financial contributions to the American Red Cross Disaster Fund can be made by sending a donation to Cherokee County, American Red Cross, 514 Bailey Court, Cherokee, IA 51012. Plus people can make a contribution in the donation jars placed in various businesses around town; or you can also go online at www.redcross.org.
All contributions to the American Red Cross Disaster Fund are used to help those affected by disaster. The help that American Red Cross gives in the form of food, shelter, clothing and other emergency needs is a gift to those in need from the people who donate for this purpose. It is only because of donations that the American Red Cross can help. As you may have heard the funds are exhausted so at this time loans are being made to continue the work until the contributions come in.
Another way to help is to take training to become a disaster volunteer worker if you are able to donate time to go to areas affected by disaster, on a local level or across the United States. If interested call 225-4507.
