Isabelle S. Schmit, 87, of Cherokee, formerly of Cushing, died Thursday, June 19, 2008, at the Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center in Cherokee.
Services were held at 1 p.m. on June 23 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Holstein, with the Rev. David Hemann officiating. Burial was held in Calvary Cemetery at Holstein.
Isabelle was born Feb. 3, 1921, in Mount Carmel, the daughter of Carl and Josephine (Reiff) Nees. She was a lifelong Iowa resident, and spent many years as a homemaker in the Correctionville, area where her husband, Peter Schmit, farmed.
Isabelle enjoyed staying active in many clubs throughout the years, and she also enjoyed visiting with friends, neighbors and her family. She had many hobbies, including gardening, sewing, quilting, crocheting, embroidery, weaving, painting, fishing and woodworking. She loved all types of crafts, scrapbooking, putting together photo albums, collecting dolls and creating family trees.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Dorothy and Ester Nees, who died in infancy, and Viola Bruder; and a brother, Walter Nees.
Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Patricia Reis and husband, Randy Krohn of Early, Iowa, Janet Eberly of Cherokee, and Marianne Collins and her fiance, Colin Eickholt of Zimmerman, Minn.; grandchildren, Laurie (Reis) Baker, Teresa (Reis) Griffith, Karen (Eberly) and husband, J.R. Miller, Scott Eberly, Valerie (Collins) and husband, McKinley Pugh and Jeff Collins and fiancee, Jenny Heath; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Nees of Early; and a brother-in-law, Jerome Bruder of Long Prairie, Minn.
