The South O'Brien softball team lost two tough War Eagle Conference games last week, falling 5-2 at 5th-rated Akron-Westfield, and losing 10-9 slugfest to Hinton in Paullina.
Aphton Roberts took the mound loss against A-W, allowing one earned run on four hits and three walks, with five strikeouts. The Wolverines were victimized by three costly errors that led to four unearned runs in the game.
Leading hitters for SOS were Taylor Julian with a double, Faith Wittrock, Rachel Tilley, and Miranda Kelleher each with a single, and Carrie Egdorf and Chelsie Rohrs each with an RBI.
In the exciting 12-inning loss to Hinton, Roberts pitched the distance, giving up 15 hits and two walks, while striking out two.
Ashton Lansink led the Wolverine offense with a 3-5 night, a double, three RBI, and three runs scored. Tilley had two hits including a double, Julian had two RBI, Rohrs stroked a double, and Sammi Unrau scored two runs.
"This was a really intense game and we're disappointed that we did not come out with a win," said SOS coach Mary Helfter. "We had opportunities and hit the ball well, just too close to Hinton's fielders.
South O'Brien now sports an 11-5 record and stand 8-3 in the WEC.
