GALVA - In the words of Galva-Holstein coach Scott Phelps, his softball team "got roughed up a bit" here on June 24th, losing to rated Maple Valley Conference foe Woodbury Central 13-1 in five innings.
Michaela Else took the loss on the mound, pitching four innings and giving up nine runs on three hits. Only one of the nine runs was earned. Else walked eight and struck out one. Ashley Buell also pitched an inning, and gave up four runs on three hits while walking two.
G-H had five hits but were unable to start many rallies. Leading the way at the plate for the Lady Pirtaes were Brooke Weise, who stroked a single and drove in a run; Heather Joslin, who went 1-3; Brea Slaybaugh, 1-2; and Ashley Buell, also 1-2.

An injury has knocked regular starting pitcher Jaime Christensen out of the lineup for a time, forcing Phelps to move regular catcher Michaela Else from behind the plate to the mound.
"The kids played hard for the situation they have been thrown into," said Phelps, "and have kept a good attitude for the most part."
G-H is now 15-12 overall and 7-3 in the conference.
