The Galva-Holstein softball team lost a close one to Odebolt-Arthur in the 7th place game of the Maple Valley Conference Tournament on June 23rd.
O-A scored two runs in the 6th and another two runs in the 7th inning to pull out the 5-4 win.
Michaela Else took the loss on the mound for the Lady Pirates, but pitched a good game. Else gave up five runs, all of them unearned, on four hits, while walking eight and striking out two.
Leading the way at the plate for G-H were Lindsey Joslin, who went 2-3 with a run scored and an RBI, and Brooke Weise, whose 2-3 performance included a triple. Weise scored one run and also drove one in. Kara Slaybaugh also had a double, while Brittany Ridder and Emily Schiernbeck each had RBI singles.
Coach Scott Phelps was happy with the effort, though disappointed with the loss. "The kids played hard," Phelps said, "but we just came up a little short, and that's all you can ask from the kids. This will help us as we prepare for Districts down the road."
Galva-Holstein is now 15-11 overall.
