Drawn to the fair

One of the new features at the Cherokee County Fair this year will be caricature artist Kira Layli Scott or as she calls it Kiracatures. Scott will be bringing a fun and wholesome family activity to the fair.

Scott is a talented artist and she just graduated from at Iowa State University with a degree in Studio Arts. She has worked for the Virtual Reality Applications Center at the Iowa State campus.

When asked how she got started Scott said "I have been interested in drawing for as long as I can remember." She also added, "One year at Veishea there was a need for a volunteer caricature artists. I decided to try it out. It went so well and I had so much fun I decided to look for more opportunities. Eventually I started my business called 'Kiracatures'."

Along with her travels to fairs and community events through out Iowa she also a very talented musician and enjoys acting. She has participated as a cast member in Mount Vernon Community Theater and the Ames Community Theater.

She became involved with the Cherokee County Fair when the representatives of the Cherokee County Fair Board invited her to this year's fair at the county fair convention that was held last December.

You can look for Scott and her Kiracatures outside the Commercial Building at the Cherokee County Fair on Friday. July 11 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, July 12 from noon to 6 p.m. All drawings done by Scott are free for the public.
