MAPLETON - The Galva-Holstein Lady Pirates wrapped up their Maple Valley Conference schedule on June 26th with a 20-10 loss to MV-AO in six innings. Michaela Else took the loss on the mound, going four innings and giving up 16 runs (12 unearned) on nine hits. Else walked eight and had one strike out. Ashley Buell came in and pitched the last two innings, giving up four runs (three unearned) on two hits.

G-H hitters were led by Brea Slaybaugh, who went 4-4 , scored three runs and drove in another; Brooke Weise, who went 2-4 with two triples and four RBI; Kara Slaybaugh, 2-3 with two doubles and three RBI; and Heather Joslin, who was 1-4 with two RBI.

Galva-Holstein coach Scott Phelps was "extremely happy" with the way the young Lady Pirates continue to hit the ball consistently, but is also disappointed with the way the defense has played and the inconsistency of the pitching the last few games.

"The kids continue to play hard and learn as we play game to game," said Phelps, "and we will continue to strive to put all aspects of the game together."

The Lady Pirates begin Regional Tournament play on Wednesday July 2nd at Galva, when they take on Maple Valley Conference rival River Valley, following the conclusion of the Aurelia-Schaller/Crestland game.
