Braves end regular season with 14-3 win over HWC

HULL - The #1-ranked Cherokee Braves concluded a successful regular season with an impressive 14-3 win over host Western Christian here on July 2. The victory capped an unblemished 16-0 run through the Lakes Conference for the Braves, the defending Class 2A state champions.

Senior Mark Johnson started the game for the Lakes Conference champs and went four innings, giving up two hits and three runs. Johnson struck out four Wolfpack hitters and walked two. Scott Brown and Tyler Jones each pitched an inning of scoreless relief for the Braves.

Kyle Ruehle led the Braves' offensive attack with a 4 for 4 performance, including two doubles. Ruehle dove in two runs, as did teammates Kyle Schuett and Scott Brown. Cody Ege was 2-3, Tyler Jones and Matt Koch each slugged a double, and Matt Pitts drove in one run.

The Braves headed into Saturday's Regional Tournament action with a 24-1 overall mark.
