The South O'Brien softball team beat Unity Christian 11-2 on July 2. South O'Brien's Aphton Roberts surpassed 500 career strikeouts, as the Wolverines finished their tough War Eagle Conference schedule with a 13-5 record. South O'Brien finished in third place in the WEC, behind SBL and A-W, who tied for first with 17- marks.
Roberts struck out seven, walked one, and allowed just five hits in her winning effort. Number 500 was the last out in the bottom of the fourth.
Ashton Lansink topped the Wolverines' 14-hit attack with a grand slam home run in the third inning. It was her fifth home run of the season, just one short of the school's season record.
Chelsie Rohrs was 3 for 4, and Faith Wittrock, Rachel Tilley, Taylor Julian, Christine Haden, and Lansink each had two hits.
Coach Mary Helfter said, "We needed this win to take sole possession of third place in the WEC. That was the number one goal. I'm happy for Aphton and Ashton. They have had some remarkable accomplishments."
