Greg Stieneke, Cherokee City Council member, has criticized the mayor and council for what he regards as failure to work with a safety committee. At his suggestion, his letter of resignation from the safety committee is being published. It is as follows:
I, Greg Stieneke, will no longer have anything to do with the safety committee for the city of Cherokee, Iowa. The mayor and council will not work with the committee, and after some of what I call serious safety infractions that the mayor did not want the pursue at this time there is no need for any one working on safety. Mark my words, someone will be hurt. The question is not when but how bad. I hope that some time in the near future this council learns that the employees do not run the city.
