The Cherokee County Board of Supervisors, acting on the advice of Dave Shanahan, county engineer, approved a resurfacing project on L-56 from L-51 to C-44 for which there is federal aid under the STP program.
The project approved at the Tuesday supervisor meeting will be paid for partly by farm to market funding with the bulk of the funding from the STP program, that program paying $360,000 or 80 percent of the project cost, whichever is less. It is expected that $360,000 will be the lesser amount.
There was a general discussion at the meeting about road conditions and options in dealing with damage.
Shanahan noted that with the severely cold winter and the wet spring, there has been a good deal of freeze-thaw damage on county roads this year.
The supervisors will not have a meeting on Tuesday, deciding to skip a week both because this is a slow period of the year and because the supervisors will be touring the Law Enforcement Center that day.
In past years, supervisors have had a summer schedule, meeting on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. This year, the supervisors are meeting every Tuesday, with the exception of next week. This has resulted in light agendas at some meetings, including the one this week.
