IHSBCA names All-District teams

Braves Ruehle, Koch, Jones, Schuett, Ege 1st team

Five players on the #1 Cherokee Braves baseball team have earned first team, Class 2A All-District honors as voted on by the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Cherokee senior Kyle Ruehle; juniors Matt Koch, Tyler Jones, and Kyle Schuett; and sophomore Cody Ege were named to the 2008 Class 2A All-District squad. Last week the superb fivesome was named 2008 first team All-Lakes Conference.

Ruehle, who also pitched for the Braves with a 7-0 record, was picked at second base. He batted a stout .431 this season.

Koch was named as a pitcher, as he racked up a 4-0 record in regular season while seeing much action as the 29-1 Braves' closer. He struck out 53 in 30 innings, and batted .410.

Tyler Jones
Jones, one of the most acclaimed prep catchers in Iowa, batted .381 in regular season, and is the defending 2A state champion Braves' productive lead-off hitter.

Schuett, Cherokee's fleet center fielder, batted .356 this season and racked up 17 stolen bases. He, Jones, and Ege were unanimous All-Lakes picks.

Ege was named to the All-District first team as a utility player, although he batted .500 and led the Braves pitching staff with an 11-0 record. He also plays a superb first base for the Champion Braves and led the team in RBI with 37.

South O'Brien's Ryan Brasser was named to the Class 2A All-District second team as a pitcher. The Wolverine sophomore rang up a 5-3-1 record with 64 Ks in 50 innings.

Among the Class 1A All-District selections were Galva-Holstein's Mark Cronin, a first-team pick; and Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn's Jacob Lehnhoff, a second-team pick.

Cronin is a junior catcher and batted .438, and Lehnhoff is a junior who batted .463 and played first base and pitched for the Eagles. He was named to the second team as a utility player.
