A good thing two times

Cherokee County is blessed to have two really nice fairs every year. There is a lot of good-natured competition between the groups organizing the two events.

The Cherokee County Fair in July and the Marcus Fair in August, each has its own specialties, offering varied entertainments and competitions, with some overlap for those who like to compete in competitions involving livestock, gardening, baking, art and crafts.

One of the most popular features of the Marcus Fair coming up next week is free admission every day.

Every year there are standard crowd pleasers at the Marcus Fair -- the carnival, tractor pull, horse arena and Little Miss Marcus.

And a special feature at this year's Marcus Fair will be the Westernaires, a talented group of young horse riders from Colorado who will be performing on Saturday.

The Marcus Fair is one of the great summer events in the area. There is no such thing as too much summer fun.
