Patriotic artwork now at Sanford

An award-winning line drawing by 2008 Washngtoh High School graduate Virginia Bird is now on display at the Sanford museum in Cherokee.

Bird took first place in a state contest of patriotic art, sponsored by the VFW and VFW Auxiliary.

Bird qualified for state competition by winning first place in local competition, and received a $50 prize from the local VFW and Auxiliary and a $500 check from the state organization.

Virginia will be going to Texas soon to begin her service in the Air Force, where she hopes to receive training as an airplane mechanic.
