DES MOINES -- In the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association All-Star series in Des Moines Thursday, the small schools from the western part of the state took on the West's large schools.
Neither team scored until the small schools broke through with six runs in the top of the 5th inning. The large school squad scored four in the 5th and tied it in the 6th with two more runs. The small schools came back with three runs in the top of the 7th, but the large schools tallied four in their half of the frame to win the contest by a 10-9 score.
Cherokee Braves senior Kyle Ruehle went 2 for 2 at the plate, including a double, and also drove in a run for the Small West team.
