Memorial services and Masonic Services were held on August 8, at the First Congregational Church in Peterson, with Pastor Charles Hall officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery at Peterson. There were military rites at the graveside, and the remains were cremated. The Boothby Funeral Home in Cherokee was in charge of the arrangements.
Don "Bob" Hoover was born Feb. 26, 1931 at Peterson, to Donald E. and Violet (Walsh) Hoover. He graduated from Peterson High School in 1949. He attended Buena Vista Technical College for one year studying business and accounting. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1952 until 1954, being discharged as a sergeant. He was married to Janet K. Kracht on March 26, 1961 at Peterson. He owned and operated Don's Super Service in Peterson for many years, until it was destroyed by fire on Nov. 3, 1992. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Peterson and a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Abu-Bekr Shrine Temple, the Scottish Rite, the Spencer ATV Corp., and the Dean Underwood Post #10 of the American Legion at Peterson.
Bob enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren, riding with the ATV Corp., watching NASCAR races and "driving the loop" in Peterson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Janet Hoover on May 5, 1994; a sister, Betty Anderson,;and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
He is survived by two daughters: Donna Rushton and her husband Ron of Peterson and Barbara Adams and her fiancÚ Bob Miller of Milford; 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, a brother-in-law Lowell Anderson of Laurens; an uncle Robert Hoover of Minnesota; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
