Ruth Noll, age 94, of Ida Grove, died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at her son's home in Arion, Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Aug. 6, at the First United Methodist Church in Ida Grove, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend Russ L. Burnett officiated, and burial was August 7 in the Ida Grove Cemetery.
Born December 11, 1913, in South Dakota, Ruth LaVerne Noll was the daughter of Homer and Olga (Williams) Young. She moved with her family as a young child to the Ida Grove area where she grew up and attended Ida County schools.
On December 20, 1933, Ruth was united in marriage to Marvin Mitchell. The couple made their home in Ida Grove, where they raised their family. Over the years, Ruth worked as a clerk at area grocery stores and at J. C. Penney's. Marvin passed away in 1973.
Ruth married Roy Noll on August 13, 1977, in Mankato, Minn. Ruth and Roy enjoyed wintering in Quartzsite, Ariz., for ten years. He passed away in 2000.
Ruth was an active lady with many interests, including playing bingo and attending basketball games with her cherished friend, Ruth Ohlmann. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, painting, making silver jewelry, traveling, and working crossword puzzles. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ida Grove.
Survivors include three children and their spouses - Robert and Rosella Mitchell of Mountain Home, Idaho, Beverly and Gary Dean of Marana, Ariz., and Wayne and Rose Mitchell of Arion; 12 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
In addition to her two husbands, Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; a son, LeRoy Mitchell; a great-grandson, Michael Mitchell; three sisters, Vivian Friday, Kathleen Praul, and Evadean Habinger; a brother, Lawrence Young; and a son-in-law, Jerry Ang.
