Washta's Car-Go celebrates 10 years

Monday, August 11, 2008

Out of the oven - Washta's Car-Go Express has been gearing up for their upcoming 10th anniversary customer appreciation celebration. In this photo, Car-Go manager Michelle McCampbell is seen removing some "hogs-in-a-quilt" (hot dogs and cheese wrapped in pizza dough,) from the oven. The three-day event took place on Aug. 7, 8 and 9. Photo by Ron Flewelling.
For nearly a decade now, the Washta Car-Go Express Store has been catering to the needs of both its community and those passing through.

Whether it's been gasoline, diesel fuel and other petroleum products, grocery items, milk, candy, sundry supplies, both short order sandwiches and full meals, packs of beer and soft drinks of all sizes, the popular convenience store has been ready, willing and able to deliver the goods.

With their 10th anniversary rapidly approaching, the Car-Go folks have decided to celebrate the landmark date with a grand three-day gala that will have something for everyone dropping in for the event.

The mega-birthday bash was launched on Thursday, Aug. 7 with a live KCHE broadcast.

The day's celebration included plenty of food...a savory set-to that will include free pastry puff samples as well as a free customer appreciation barbecue that will boast of grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, beans and chips.

The great grill-out took place between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. and again between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

In addition, a number of periodic in-store specials will be featured, including discounts on appetizers, king-sized Bing candy bars and Little Debbie boxed snacks.

There will be hourly drawings carried out throughout the day for a wide variety of prizes that will include caps, t-shirts and many other items.

The drawings will be topped off with two grand prizes of $50 in fuel.

On Friday, Aug. 8, a number of in-store discounts were offered on appetizers and novelty ice cream items.

Half-priced fountain drinks and 2-for-1 movie rentals were also featured.

Discounts on large box candy, appetizers and 18-packs of beer and 79-cent ice cream cones mark the day's celebration on Saturday, Aug. 9.

Five drawings took place on both Friday and Saturday, with five pizzas and five 8-piece boxes of chicken given away to lucky winners.

Outdoor displays were also carried on throughout the three-day event, including craft demonstrations and sales ,as well as bake sales hosted by local groups, including the MYF.

Needless to say, gas, diesel fuel, sandwiches, chicken, pizza and other food items, sundry supplies and all the rest of the great items and services that make up Car-Go's inventory were also available for purchase during the event.

The Cargo-Go Express Convenience Store is located near the junction of Highway 31 and Washta's Main Street (C-66.)
