State softball honors for area players

DES MOINES - South O'Brien's Aphton Roberts, Alta's Jesse Bibler, and Sioux Central's Brooke Scharn were the only area players named to the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union All-State softball teams announced this week.

Roberts, a Wolverine senior, was named to the Class 2A third team as a pitcher; Bibler, an Alta junior, was a 1A second team pick as a utility player; and Scharn, a Sioux Central sophomore, was named to the 2A third team as a pitcher.

Roberts and Scharn also were named to the first team as pitchers for Class 2A Northwest District, as selected by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association. Also making that squad was South O'Brien junior infielder Ashton Lansink. Alta's Bibler was a 1A first team pick as a pitcher.

Heather Joslin, Galva-Holstein
Three Galva-Holstein players also earned first-team 1A Northwest District honors, including twin sisters Heather and Lindsay Joslin named as infielders, along with teammate Brea Slaybaugh. The Joslins are juniors, and Slaybaugh is a sophomore.

River Valley senior infielder Alissa Slota also received first-team Class 1A District honors.
