Aurelia has five new teachers this fall

Tuesday, August 19, 2008

AURELIA - Classes for the 118th school year at the Aurelia Community School will begin on Tuesday August 19th, and Aurelia students will find that there are a lot of new faces among the teaching staff this fall.

Elementary Administrator Ann Sandine has now assumed the position of K-12 Principal, in the wake of High School Principal David Hickman's retirement. Sandine also served as the school's Guidance Counselor, and the position of TK - 12 Counselor will now be filled by Barb Huseman, who has been employed as a teaching associate at Aurelia and, like Sandine, is an alumnus of Aurelia High School.

Another Aurelia alum joins the Aurelia staff this fall. Le Ann Patton, a 1989 AHS grad who has been teaching in the Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn district for several years, will be teaching Reading for 5th - 8th graders and Language Arts for 5th and 6th graders in the Aurelia Middle School this year. Le Ann and her husband Dave live in Aurelia with their daughters, Lexie and Annika, who are students in the Aurelia Elementary school.

Angela Kruger, a Westmar College graduate and Aurelia resident, returns to teaching this fall, as she takes over the second grade class following Sue Radke's retirement.

Two other new faces at Aurelia this year belong to newlyweds Todd and Sara Walter. Todd, who graduated from Waldorf College last spring, is the new 5 - 12 Band instructor at Aurelia and Sara, a 2008 Augustana grad, will be teaching 8th grade math, tech math, pre-Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II and Senior Math.

Finally,1982 Aurelia grad Lynn Evans has joined the staff as Superintendent of Schools, a position he has agreed to serve in both the Aurelia and Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn school districts. Evans has been the Superintendent at H-M-S since 2003.
