Sister Mary Joanna Nolan, OSB, a member of the Benedictines of Jesus Crucified of the Monastery of the Glorious Cross, 61 Burban Dr., Conn. died Aug. 16, 2008 in CT Hospice. Interment was in St. Agnes Cemetery. The Celentano Funeral Home, New Haven, was in charge of the arrangements.

Sister Mary Joanna was born in Hawarden, daughter of the late Robert H. and Joanna E. Gaffney Nolan. Before entering the order, she was a registered nurse and also taught children on a reservation in South Dakota. Sister was a member of Regina Mundi Priory in Devon, Pa. and St. Paul's Priory in Newport, R.I. before moving to Branford, Connecticut. She is survived by two sisters, Helen V. Kelehan of Des Moines and Sister Michael Marie Nolan, DC, of Shoreline, Wash.; one brother, John E. Nolan of Leawood, Kans; and several nieces and nephews.
