On August 8 Gary and Patti Mesner purchased the popular Monte's Steakhouse and Thunder Alley bowling alley in Paullina, but a lot of their plans are still up in the air.

For the past week and a half the pair, along with their daughter and other relatives, have been busy cleaning and getting the two businesses up and running.

So far their plan is to concentrate the efforts on having the six-lane bowling alley up and running by league time. The bowling alley will feature a fully stocked bar and the couple will have a pro shop downstairs.

The name of the bowling alley will remain Thunder Alley, but the Mesners have a different idea for the steakhouse. They are letting the community of Paullina pick the name of the restaurant.

Plans for the restaurant are to move away from the steakhouse atmosphere and focus on a "family friendly" restaurant with home cooking. According to the Mesners, there will be plenty of new lunch and dinner specials.

The Mesners are no strangers to the service industry. For the past eight years the couple have owned Paradise Bar in the city of Arnolds Park. They are looking forward to being a part of Paullina.
