Aurelia Board Okays Superintendent contract

Tuesday, August 26, 2008

AURELIA - In a special School Board meeting on Aug. 18, the Aurelia Board approved a contract for sharing the services of Superintendent Lynn Evans with the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn District.

Evans was present at the meeting and gave his approval to the contract, which was drawn up by both districts, with some legal advice from the Aurelia District's attorney. The contract calls for Evans to work in the Aurelia District 30% of the time and the larger HMS District 70% of the time. The Aurelia District will also pay 30% of Evans' salary and benefits. The Board has received a waiver on the requirement for sharing districts to be contiguous, and that waiver will be good for as long as the sharing agreement is in place.

Evans is a former Aurelian and a graduate of Aurelia High School.

Board Secretary Vicki Kolpin reported that the new flooring in the lunchroom is complete and the new lighting there is being installed. Several Board members took a look after the meeting and were in agreement that the lighting is a big improvement and the flooring looks very good and has a softer feel to it.

New lighting in the gymnasium will be done by the same company in the evenings and will hopefully be completed within the next couple of days. The new sign for placement beneath the football scoreboard has also been completed, and should be hung by the time of the first game on August 29.
